The NSF Raises More Than $13 Million to Provide Life-Changing Spine Surgeries to Disadvantaged Global Communities

NuVasive, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUVA), a medical device company focused on developing minimally disruptive surgical products and procedures for the spine, is proud to announce today that the NuVasive Spine Foundation™ (NSF), a non-profit organization founded and managed by NuVasive, has reached a cumulative milestone of more than $13 million contributed since the Foundation's inception in 2009. To date, NuVasive has donated approximately $10.5 million in surgical products. The announcement follows the successful completion of the Seventh Annual NuVasive Spine Foundation San Diego Golf Tournament held at the Maderas Golf Club on August 24, 2014.
The Foundation's annual flagship fundraising event supports the organization's mission to bring world-class surgeons and innovative spine surgery to disadvantaged communities locally and across the globe. In the past five years, the Foundation's philanthropic impact has expanded from providing surgical services to a single village in Nairobi to supporting 65 surgical mission trips to patients in 23 countries including: Ethiopia, Syria, Turkey, Romania, Belize, India, Zimbabwe and Kenya. NuVasive CEO, Alex Lukianov, noted that the Foundation's mission is built upon a company culture of giving back.

In addition to organizing the surgeons who volunteer their time and expertise to further the NSF mission, the Foundation also emphasizes "expertise transfer" to ensure that surgeons in disadvantaged communities are able to create self-sustaining spinal surgery programs once a mission trip concludes.
This year's golf tournament raised more than $370,000, exceeding the target amount of $300,000 and the Foundation's previous record of $230,000 for the same event last year. Donations resulting from this tournament will provide disadvantaged communities with access to spinal procedures through the funding of mission trips; the sponsoring of patient treatments; and the purchasing of essential medical equipment for hospitals and clinics. The number of yearly missions has more than doubled since 2011 and the Foundation is on track to expand its program development.
